Geometry as order in chaos
Building visual language through observation

MENTORSHIP
1-on-1 | 4 hours | €350
Sometimes you don't need a workshop, you need someone to think with.
This is a four hour session built around your vision. We look at your work, talk about what you're drawn to, where you feel stuck and what you're trying to say. Then we shoot: close guidance and space to experiment.
It's about sharpening your eye, deepening your approach and finding the thread that makes your work feel like yours. Whether that's building a series, developing a BTO visual language or just breaking out of a creative block.
What we cover:
A deep look at your existing work and where it wants to go
Close guidance while you shoot
Building towards series and more intentional storytelling

WORKSHOPS IN ACTION
What People Are Saying
"I had a great time and really feel like some new directions were opened up for me. A feeling that I've wanted to achieve in my images for a longer time, but didn't really manage. You were an excellent teacher; calm and clear in your explanations. It really opened my eyes to different perspectives."
— Anna, Amsterdam Workshop Participant
"The workshop Beyond the Obvious with Stuss was an exploration of looking and seeing differently. He gave us various tips to make us aware of this and apply it in practice. It worked well, and everyone received enough attention for what we were doing. It was a pleasant and educational day!"
— Paula, Amsterdam Workshop Participant
"From camera shy to confident shooting - that was definitely me. I learned a lot about light and reflection and looking at it differently."
— Daniel, Rotterdam Workshop Participant
“I loved how this workshop pushed me to look beyond the obvious and explore perspectives I’ve never tried before. Most of all, I appreciated the individual guidance as it made the learning experience genuinely personal and transformative.”
— Joe, Rotterdam Workshop Participant
“I thoroughly enjoyed the "Beyond the Obvious" workshop. It taught me a whole new way of seeing and using glass and light.”
— Cees, Amsterdam Workshop Participant
"The workshop worked out great for me! Stuss is easy going and pays a lot of attention. But the most important thing for me is that I have learned to look differently at things during my shoots - to step out of my comfort zone and give more layers to my pictures. We learned about light, reflection and silhouettes. Thank you so much for this.”
— Anne, Amsterdam Workshop Participant
WHY THESE WORKSHOPS ARE DIFFERENT
Most street photography workshops teach you to capture decisive moments and photograph strangers. You learn to document.
This workshop teaches you to create atmosphere and feeling through reflections, silhouettes, and layered compositions. You learn to see.
Small groups mean I can work with you individually while you shoot, not just lecture at the beginning and disappear.
March+ workshops include feedback on 5 images you create, so the learning continues after the session ends.
This isn't a photowalk. It's a shift in how your brain processes what you see.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What camera do I need?
Whatever you already have. I've had people shoot incredible work on their phones and people struggle with expensive cameras. The workshop is about training your eye to see reflections, geometry, and light, not about equipment. If you can point it and press a button, you're good to go.
I'm a complete beginner. Is this for me?
Yes, absolutely. Beginners often have the easiest time in these workshops because you're not trying to unlearn old habits. You don't need to know anything about photography theory or camera settings. We'll figure out your camera together in the first 10 minutes, then spend the rest of the time creating images.
How many people per workshop?
Maximum 6 people. This means I can actually work with you while you're shooting, not just talk at the group and disappear. You'll get hands-on guidance, real-time feedback on your framing and answers to your questions as they come up.
Do I need to know manual settings?
No. We can shoot in auto mode or aperture priority and focus completely on seeing and composition.
Is this like other street photography workshops?
Not really. Most street photography workshops teach you to capture decisive moments, photograph strangers, and document the city. This workshop teaches you to create atmosphere and feeling through reflections, silhouettes, and layered compositions. If you've taken workshops before and felt like you were just chasing people with cameras, this will feel completely different.
Where do we meet?
I'll email you the specific meeting point one week before, with a reminder 48 hours before the workshop. It's always near public transport and easy to find. We usually meet at a coffee shop or station entrance, somewhere you can grab a coffee before we start if you want.
What's your refund policy?
Full refund if you cancel up to 7 days before the workshop. Within 7 days, no refunds (because I've already turned away other bookings to save your spot). Life happens though, so if there's a real emergency, just reach out and we'll figure something out.
Looking for something more personal?
I also offer 1-on-1 private mentorship sessions for anyone who wants to go deeper into the BTO approach. Four hours, just the two of us, built entirely around your work and vision. Drop me an email at stusshelder@gmail.com to find out more.
